On Thursday, May 14, 2009 one of our main sponsors Castle & Cooke / Dole Plantation held the second annual Waialua Robotics Benefit Luau. Other sponsors and representatives were invited to join us for a fun and entertaining night. The team showed up early to help set up tables, chairs, and get drinks ready. As guests showed up they were greeted by members of the team at the check-in table and received leis. Other team members worked hard by serving the local food and desserts to the guests. We were not able to serve drinks due to the alcoholic beverages offered this year, but guests were able to donate money while getting drinks which went to the Waialua Robotics program.

Head Composition and Public Relations team member and senior, Brianna Acosta, was the MC for the robotics presentation where team members gave speeches about this year’s experience, our drivers demonstrated this year’s robot: the LunaKahuna, this year’s game animation, and a video presentation prepared for the luau. Freshman Ayano Jeffers-Fabro was the representative chosen to speak for the freshman of the team and she explained what it was like to be a rookie this year and how the experience has been an amazing and unforgettable one.

Seniors Brianna Acosta and Cody Smith gave speeches on their participation with FIRST and how it has impacted their lives, as well as sharing what college they plan on attending and what they will be majoring in. After the team finished their presentation, Castle & Cooke / Dole Plantation graciously gave the team a $10,000 check. The night later ended with a performance by Brother Noland who couldn’t get the crowd to stop laughing. His humorous spirits and great singing kept the crowd alive. Team 359 would like to thank Castle & Cooke / Dole Plantation and all their other sponsors for their generosity this season!
