Today marked the first day of Week 6, the final week of build season. With the six weeks coming to a close, the Hawaiian Kids remember the days and nights they had to work and all the hours they put in  to come this far. With one week remaining, the Hawaiian Kids perfected, finalized, and tweaked all the small things to put the finishing touches on the robot, controls and the binder. The video department met with the visual media mentor, Gene Kois, working on the audio timeline for the team video.  Other than working with Mr. Kois, the division worked on the open house video until it was finalized, collected all the clips they captured of the week to make the Week Five video and also continued to work on the Chairman's video. Meanwhile, the website division uploaded the article from the previous day and replaced some graphics such as weekly banners and days. Other than working on the website, the division transferred all build season pictures to the media desktop.  For the CAD division, they worked on several scenes for the animation video as well as recorded the script for the competition as well. For the beginning of the work day, the programming division mentor Randy Wood traveled all the way to the west side of the island and mentored Team 2459 Nanakuli High School robotics and Team 3685 Waianae High School.  After a long drive back to the North Shore, the programming team loaded the Labview and Driver Station onto the laptop for the final touches on the controller. For the construction division, the occupied their selves by  working on the deployment apparatus for the mini bot as well as removing parts of the robot, sandblasting them and powder coating the pieces. For the CPR division, they updated and edited the “Impact on Waialua” pages for the Program Binder.  With one more week to go, Waialua's lookin' mighty fine. Hope everyone else is having a successful build season!

With only a few more days left of the 2011 build season, The Hawaiian Kids worked on their duties to finalize and edit their work.  For the video division they are working on finalizing a few parts of the open house video which will be shown  on Thursday, February 17, 2011. While the CAD division worked on the storyboard and putting scenes together for the animation, the website creation division backed up all the pictures on the picture computer, arranged photos, and worked on the week six page. As for the documentation division, they updated submission essays and worked on printing the team banners. While the programming division prepared the new cameras, the construction division worked late into the night adding the deployment rack and the mini bot to the robot, they also powder coated some of the pieces for the robot. It was a long day for The Hawaiian Kids, but with only a few days of the 6 week period build season left, no time can be wasted.

Roses are red, violets are blue, Team 359 is having quite the hullabaloo. With exactly only one week left until the robot is shipped, there was a flurry of activity on the Waialua Robotics grounds. Today the programming division tested the deployment mechanism, wired up the spike set up for the robot LED’s and mounted another solenoid for the mini bot deployment trigger. While the CAD division fixed the narration of the animation video, the video team filmed the different divisions, burned videos to disks, finalized the open house video, and started on the week six video. For the website creation division, they added a sites of intrest page, uploaded the daily article, edited and took pictures, and even updated the prospective regional page with dates. As the documentation team updated Dean’s homework, the construction division was hard at work powder coating the frame of the robot anodized red, fine tuned the mini bot, and sand blasted parts. After celebrating Valentine’s Day with homemade Valentine’s Day cupcakes, The Hawaiian Kids ended the day on a good note as they prepare for the seven days of the 2011 build season.

With only two days until the eleventh annual Waialua Robotics open house, The Hawaiian Kids still have a plethora of things to do. Preparing for our upcoming event, the video division finished the open house video and burned it to a disc to reveal to the attendees at open house, what we have been doing during the six weeks of build season. With all the divisions prepping their scripts, each division still had to do their duties for the day. For the website creation division, they uploaded the week five video, updated Monday's article, and took pictures which will be posted later. As for the documentation team they made name tags for the open house attendees, and the support team continued adding tags to leis which will be given as omiyage at the regionals we attend. Today the construction division finished sandblasting and powder-coating for the 2011 robot, worked on the shelving of the crate, and made mounts for the air tanks. By the end of the night, the robot was ready to be reassembled. While some of the construction team put the electronics board, bearing blocks, and the drive chains on, the rest were cutting pieces, fabricating, and applying the vinyl to the drivers station. In the meantime, the programming division began to reinstall the control system on the powdercoated robot and created the drivers station circuit board. It was a long day for all the divisions as it is the last week and almost the end of the 2011 six week build season.

With only one day left till the 2011 Waialua Robotics Open House, The Hawaiian Kids finished what needed to be completed and started cleaning and preparing for this annual event. Since open house is when our team reveals the robot to the public, the construction team assembled the entire robot, by mounting the arm, mini bot deployment, and air tanks to the main frame, they also finished constructing the driver's station. While the robot was being put together, the programming division worked on the circuit board for the driver's station and finally when it was completed, they tested and practiced scoring. As for the video division, they made final adjustments to the open house video, and the website creation division edited the student biography's and pictures, uploaded the previous day article, and fixed the site of interest page. It was a busy day for Team 359, as they finished the program binder and submitted all the documents, but tomorrow, February 17, 2011, will be the busiest as the team will show to all the attendees what we have been doing for the 2011 six week build season.

On Thursday, February 17, 2011, Team 359 held the event that they have been preparing for since the beginning of build season, the Eleventh Annual Statewide Robotics Open House. The Hawaiian Kids showed sponsors, special guests, parents, family and friends what they have accomplished during the six weeks of build season in a short tour of work stations and a demonstration of our robot, Ho'okahi.

Before the attendees arrived, each division cleaned and organized their stations in preparation for the tours of the facilities. The visual media division set up the projector and laptop in order to play both the Logomotion game animation video and the open house video for our guests. They then prepared their cameras and other equipment to film this eventful afternoon. Everyone from Team 359, both mentors and students, helped set up the playing field in the cafeteria, the stage area for the masters of ceremonies, seniors Chadwick Ulep and Kortney Pao, and chairs for our guests.

Before the open house began, the emcees were practicing their speeches as others were setting up. The guests started coming onto campus at 5 PM and it was finally time to show everyone all our hard work we did over the six weeks. We were very fortunate to share the afternoon with special guests, Representative Gil Riviere, Corrie Heck, Clayton Kaninau, Anna Viggiano, General Ishikawa, Shelly Rawley, and Waialua High and Intermediate school principal, Randi Ann Porras-Tang. Our first activity we planned was showing guests the Logomotion animation video which explained this year's game. Once this was finished, guests were then broken up into different student led tour groups who took them around the industrial education shops, documentation, animation, website, VEX, FLL, video and stock rooms. At each station, team members briefly describe what they do and what they have learned over each FLL, VEX, and FRC build season. After the groups visited each station, they all went back to the cafeteria to watch our open house video created by the visual media division. This video exhibited what our program does on a year long timeline, such as outreach events, VEX and FLL competitions as well as our progress during six weeks build season. Finally, the event everyone was waiting for, the revealing of our 2011 robot, Ho'okahi, the Hawaiian word for first. As a team we agreed it was a fitting name for this year's game, Logomotion, since the game celebrates the 20th season of FRC. While the driver team demonstrated how to score tubes onto the scoring grid, the crowd had many “ooh's” and “ahh's” as they watched the robot. Ending the night with a dinner prepared by the team moms and Mr. and Mrs. Lendio, the team mingled with our special guests, family and friends. For all those who attended and helped, we would like to thank you for your time and support and to let you know that we graciously appreciate it. Although it was a long and hectic night for The Hawaiian Kids, it was well spent as we got to show the community what we have done so far in the 2010-2011 season of the Waialua Robotics program.

Today is the final day of the sixth week of build season and after a good rest from yesterday’s event, The Hawaiian Kids were up and ready for work. Today, the CAD division worked to design the top and bottom of the claw, so when the robot gets shipped on Tuesday, February 22, the construction team can have an animated version of the robot with all the right measurements for reference to help make spare parts. The website division worked on the week six safety banner, uploaded videos to Youtube, and edited articles. The visual media division filmed the different divisions at work and began editing all their clips to make the video for week six. As the programming division continued working on the driver station’s inner face and finishing up the final wiring and pneumatics on the robot, the construction division rebuilt the air tank mounts so it would be lighter.  They also put the grips onto the claw and worked on the bumper mounts which is held in by pins so it is easier to change bumpers during the competition. With only the mini bot deployment to be perfected in the last four days, Team 359 still needs to have everything ready by Tuesday for shipment, which is why the next four days will be crunch time for our team. Imua Waialua!
