It is the start of a new week, and The Hawaiian Kids headed straight to work. Without having to worry about school for the next day, the team worked a full nine hours, with only having a break for dinner. Since there were more hours being put in, more work was done. For the construction division, they welded and assembled pieces to the support structure for the arm, tested the arm, and also machined pieces for the bumper attachments. They also continued working on the claw and the extension. Because the robot will be using pneumatics for the arm, the programming division wired up the solenoids on the prototype robot to be able to simulate the piston movements. As for the CAD division they are making a city for animation, and the newest member, Malorie, is learning how to use animation by creating shapes. For the visual media division, the video team worked on the open house video, started on the week three video, and filmed all the divisions working hard on this busy day; and the website creation team updated the web-page and worked on the Safety FIRST! pages. As for the documentation team, they worked on the outreach pages for the program binder. Having such a busy day for the first day of week three, the progress of the third week's outlook is looking superb.

For the offical second day of the third week, The Hawaiian Kids, worked harder since most of the team had the day off the day before. For the construction team, they were a bit behind so, they came in on Sunday, January 23, 2011 to catch up. On Sunday they worked on the Mastercam program to cut out pieces shaped as triangles for the sides of the frame. Since they completed the sides of the frame, today they worked on the front and rear end of the frame. They first bore holes out for bumper mounts, then made the program for more triangles, and finally the CNC cut it out. For the rest if the divisions, such as the programming they wired up LEDs to test switches for use on driver station, and as for CAD they created a broken building to go with the animation story board. Meanwhile, the video division filmed the divisions and worked on the week three video, while the website division worked on the site map, uploaded pictures, and updated faculty pictures. The documentation team also updaded the pages of the program binder for mentoring, spreading FIRST's mission, Gracious professionalism, FLL, and the Pan Pacific page for the outreach section. As the day ended, Team 359, enjoyed dinner together as they planned for the goals of the week.

With the sun shining and the bright shade of blue from up above was glistening, The Hawaiian Kids, was hard at work for they did not leave until the sun went down. On this beautiful day in Hawaii nei, we welcomed visitors to tour our robotics facilities. The two visitors we welcomed, were Mr. Ed and Malcolm Chun, they both work with the military and also at the FRC Hawaii regional. At the Hawaii regional, they run the mobile machine shop, where teams go when they need to fix or build a part of the robot during the days of the regional competition. They both are currently visiting each school on Hawaii to check up and see the progress of each team. Besides having visitors today, the rest of the team was well at work. For the construction team they finished cutting the triangles out of the frame, and started a new program which cuts out more triangles from the arm for weight reduction purposes. They also drilled holes for the bumper mounts for the side of the robot and made pneumatic mounts for the arm. Because new equipment came in today, the construction team assembled the one meter square jig table which will be used for welding. For the CAD division, they are finishing up the animation city and is currently working on putting the paper drawn models on the computer. In the meantime, the website creation team took pictures and the video team filmed the construction and CAD teams and also the visitors that came. As for the documentation team, they went to ABC corporation where they purchased supplies needed throughout the season. Since all of the students in the programming division got sick, their mentor, Mr. Wood, had time to install the new software, while they rested and got better. After a long day of working at robotics, the team went home for a good night's rest.

It is now the middle of week three, and almost half way through with the six weeks. Today, we had more visitors come in and tour the robotics facilities. The visitors that we welcomed were from Waianae High School, it was their vice principal, Shane Nakamura, and a mentor from their team, Tess Kaji. While the documentation and programming team gave the Waianae visitors a tour around the facilities, the video team filmed the tour and also filmed the different divisions when they came by. The video team is currently working on the open house video, which will be shown in three weeks, and also working on the week three video. For the CAD division, they made a continent for which the Iko, the alien people, live on. As for the website creation, they uploaded yesterday's art and fixed broken links to articles. Meanwhile, the construction team completed many tasks for the robot. They finished running the program to cut out triangles for the arm, polished the transmission plates, made piston mounts, and finally welded the frame together to make it all one big piece. It was a long day for The Hawaiian Kids, but as the weeks progress days seem to get longer. |

With only one more day left of week three, Team 359, worked diligently as they complete their goals set for this week. For the construction division, their goal was to have the frame and arm built and assembled. Since they welded the frame together yesterday, they made a mock up of the arm by mounting it and welding the piston mounts to it. They also worked on the crate today and built a box for the batteries to go in it and also set it up to paint our team number on it, 359, so that when the robot gets shipped we can easily identify which crate is ours. As the construction support group continued on polishing the transmission plates, the mini robot prototype frame was built, and now they have to test it to see if it works out. Because all of the members of the programming division recovered from their sickness, they now needed to catch up; so today, they wired up the new access point for the robot, added a second set of LEDs to the control board for the driver station, and crimped anderson heads onto cim motors for future use. As for the CAD division they textured the animated robot and fixed the planet they constructed previously. Meanwhile, the documentation and film team interviewed principal of Waialua High and Intermediate School, Randiann Porras-Tang, and former student and graduate of WHIS class of '06, Malcolm Menor, who is now a mentor of our team and is currently employed at Pearl Harbor as a nuclear engineer. After the documentation team and film team finsihed the interviews, the video team went back to filming each division, worked on the open house video and finalizing the week three video, while the documentation team worked on the bands given out for omiyage at each regional and the outreach pages for the program binder. As week three comes to an end, The Hawaiian Kids, work harder to get the job done. |

It is officially the last day of week three, and the Hawaiian kids are half way through the 2011 build season. As the team reached the half way point, each division worked harder to finish the divisions goals. For the programming division, they programmed an automatic trasmission system for the robot. While the construction team painted numbers on the crate, welded the pneumatic mounts, and worked on the claw and grabber for the arm. As for the CAD/animation divison they worked on the robot landing site, the script, and started rendering the planet. Meanwhile, the documentation team continued working on the outreach pages, and the website team worked with mentor, Mrs. Pescia, changing the website templates and uploaded all the pages. As week three came to an end, Team 359, looks forward to week four. Imua Waialua! |
