With the beginning of every new robotics season comes the task of introducing the newcomers to the ways of Safety FIRST. This year is no different, as part of the first week of The Hawaiian Kids' build season was spent showing our new team members how to be safe while on the job, especially those members whose role will be primarily on the construction team. We start off by getting everyone on the team to take a basic safety test to see where we can improve on and work from their. Before any team member sets foot into the shop, they must be wearing safety glasses and covered shoes at all times while in the work areas. Once in the shop, our mentors and veteran students alike told them of other things to remember while working at the machines, such as tying your hair back and having no loose jewelry or clothing on, as well as safety tips for certain machines, such as the emergency stops for the lathe and band saw. With these tips, it is our goal as a team to have little to no emergencies happen while at work, as well as at the competitions.
