Saturday, October 29, 2011 was a busy day for Team 359. They started their day off early and went to Punahou School for the 2011 Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery. It was an “exciting day of learning and discovery” for Hawaii’s keiki and at the same time it was in honor of the late astronaut, Charles Lacy Veach. Along with the Waialua Robotics Program, Punahou and Sacred Hearts Academy demonstrated and presented their robotics program as well. Other science and technology related companies and programs were also their for the students and visitors. All the FIRST Robotics teams demonstrated either their 2011 or 2010 season robots, or both. The Hawaiian Kids shared their 2011 Chairman’s Award and End of Year video to all that passed by. The Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor was also at the event and showed visitors how planes work and how to fly them. The Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) showed everyone how to save energy in their home by simply using a certain type of light bulb. Other companies and programs that had a booth at this event was SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific, the Hawaiian Astronomical Society, Archimedes Hawaii Project, and many more. The event was filled with a numerous amount of displays, booths, and workshops and Team 359 is always glad to be a part of this opportunity to inspire others. |
