For team 359 January 19, 2012 was a very important day, today was the sixth grade orientation! There were students from three “feeder” public schools which included Haleiwa Elementary, Sunset Beach Elementary and Waialua Elementary. The students were shown around to most of the classes they would have next year if they decided to come to this school. They were also shown around to some of the electives and after school programs they could participate in, including Robotics, Band, and Digital Media.
In the Robotics facilities, they were shown all of our major programs except for LEGO. The tour started out in our VEX room were they were given a general overview of all our programs and then a brief demonstration from our 3590A VEX team. After roughly three minutes there they were taken up to our FRC construction room and further informed about our program form our lead mentor Glenn Lee then shown our Logo Motion (2010-2011) FRC robot along with another brief demonstration from our FRC drive team. When that was all finished they moved onto their next station, or in the case of our last group went to the bus. After more than four hours of this cycle, they left. This orientation is especially important to our robotics program in the fact that this is one our main ways to interest people in our program and thus keep it running.
