February 10
Today is the first day of the last week! Open house is this Saturday and we are working on preparations for the big event. The documentation team is very close to their deadlines and is finishing up all of their projects.  Ashley and Jessica’s open house video will be done by Saturday and our web site’s deadline is in four days on Valentine's Day. Reef is submitting his animation video today and is double checking it one last time. The construction team fixed three of the four problems identified yesterday, and the main focus will be fixing the last problem. Today the construction team made brackets for the two pneumatic air tanks that will be added for the pneumatic activator. This will give our robot more air pressure because we are currently lacking air pressure. They also switched the bumpers around and will be testing and practicing driving our robot. The final countdown to end of construction starts now!

Our robot was dissembled and the frame was sent off to powder coating today, so the construction team spent their time powder coating all the remaining parts that were able to fit in our oven. Mr. Lee underwent his last surgery today, and we’re all hoping for a speedy recovery. The rest of the team is scrambling to make sure everything is in order for our statewide open house, only four days away! Speeches are being prepared for each of the tour guides and our opening video is being finalized. The six weeks are quickly coming to an end!

February 11
Today will be another short working day. The documentation team is reviewing and making last minute changes on the documents that were already uploaded, but will not submit them until two days before the deadline. Ashley is adding the final touches on the video that will be presented at the Open House this Saturday and Leia continues to work on the web-page to meet the February 14th deadline. Mikia and Sara are preparing the Open House speeches and scripts for the presenters. As for the construction team, Tony is currently sandblasting the robot, a process where an air pressure blows sand to clean the metal. This is to prepare the robot for powder coating later. In addition, other members are taking the transmission apart to polish the aluminum. This is the final week of construction; the hard parts are finally done. Now all we have to do is ensure that everything is flawless and look for improvements that can be made on the robot.

We are midway through our week-six with three more days to go!  Our robot is finally finished and we are all working on extra things like the spare parts.  Leia is working on our website because it’s deadline is tomorrow. The documentation team is focusing on all the preparations for our big open house. Our video is coming along nicely and will be shown at our open house this Saturday. The rest of the documentation team is working on the open house speeches, handouts, and decorations. Armand is printing an oversized check from the banner making machine. The robot just came back from being powder coated and now the construction team is assembling the robot back together.  Today was a very productive day and we are all happy with our progress.

February 14
Today is Valentine’s Day and everyone is full from chocolate covered strawberries and Oreos; however we are also coming to an end to our six weeks of construction very quickly.  The construction team finished all the powder coating and is still working on putting the robot back together after being disassembled.   Open house is in less than two days so the documentation team is working hard on the preparation.  Jessica and Ashley are filming and adding additional clips of the end of week six to the open house video.  Galen and Wesley are almost finished with the pit crew booklet and will be done after the addition of a few things.  Mikia finished the emcee speeches while Sara is working on the speeches for the students in the different stations and the tour guides.  Leia is doing last minute changes to our website and she will be submitting it online because it is due at 11:59 tonight.  Happy Valentine's Day!

We are finally coming to an end to the six weeks of construction.  Tomorrow we will be holding a state-wide open house at our school at 4 p.m.  We spent the whole day getting everything ready for tomorrow by cleaning all the different rooms and arranged the whole cafeteria.  Ashley worked on the open house video all day and is finally finished.   We will be showing the video publicly tomorrow for the first time.  In addition, our website was submitted last night.  Some of the documentation team went for a refreshing shave ice break, which was much needed.  Armand printed out and posted up all the informative banners for the big event. The construction team moved the playing field from the media center to the cafeteria.  They programmed and tested the robot multiple times.  Today we cleaned and cleaned until everything was squeaky clean!  Everyone is welcome tomorrow at the open house so be there 4p.m. sharp!

February 16

The Waialua High and Intermediate School Robotics Team 359 held our statewide open house on Saturday February 16, 2008 at 4 p.m.  Donors, parents, officials, and the community came out for the big event.  Our open house offered a brief look at what our program is truly about with a tour of our different stations, a video of our six weeks of construction, and a demonstration of our robot.  Our open house also showed that robotics is more than just building a robot.  Our tour consisted of C-2, our main room for all of the documentation, the robotics room, used for storage and programming, and the auto and wood shops where all the construction takes place.  We held this open house to show how comprehensive our program is.  One of our guests said he was “flabbergasted at how the students actually do everything hands on.”   We ended the night with a scrumptious dinner and two beautiful cakes.
