WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

APRIL - May 2025

After 7 weeks of competition, our team qualified for the FIRST Robotics Competition Championship! Our robot was shipped directly from Utah to Houston, and after testing our rebuilt robot there, we are prepared and ready to compete against the best teams in the world. After months and months of hard work, we are determined to end the season on a high note.

QUALIFICATION MATCHES

After all the preparation on practice day, our team was ready to jump into the next 2 days of Qualification Matches. We competed in 10 matches against teams in our division, each a close call! Members on our Impact Award team broke off to practice with other teams for their presentation and interview. We competed head-to-head with the other alliance, both sides trying to score as much fuel as possible while defending against the other team. One of the highlights of the 2 days was our best match, where we paired with 3492 and 7457 to win with an impressive score of 602! After the second day, the matches ended, and we finished with a score of 7-3-0 (win-lose-tie), which earned us the 14th rank in our division!

IMUA WAIALUA

We ended the qualification matches with a record of 7-3-0 and a rank of 14th. At the opening ceremony, right before alliance selections, we were shocked to hear our team name called as an Impact Award finalist; what a pleasant surprise! Team 1771, Captains of Alliance 5, picked us as their first pick. We graciously accepted and began discussing who would be the second pick for our alliance. Using match and scouting data, we decided to invite Team 2811 to join our alliance. Together, we discussed upcoming matches and their strategies. We lost round one with a score of 445-531 against Alliance 4, but came back with a win of 627-582 in our second match. Unfortunately, we lost our third and final match, getting eliminated from the semifinals. A big thank you to our alliance partners, North Gwinnett Robotics and StormBots, for being such great teammates!

PRACTICE MATCHES

The first day of the four-day competition was practice day. Our students got up bright and early to go to the venue, set up our pit, and prepared our robot for the next few days. While everyone worked hard, the documentation subteam focused on preparing for the FIRST Impact Award. After winning it in Hawaii, we were qualified to present at the Championship. The documentation team was committed to clearly conveying our team's message and outreach initiatives. They met with several other teams, each presenting and offering advice, and this was extremely helpful to everyone involved! They took a brief pause to hand out chocolate-covered macadamia nuts to teams in our division, Milstein, spreading aloha and wishing everyone good luck! Our drive team joined many practice matches, checking in on our robot and ensuring it was working well. We ended the day with a delicious pizza dinner with Team 1506, Metal Muscle. Our team members enjoyed talking to everyone while they ate and were excited for the next day!

ALLIANCE SELECTIONS & PLAYOFFS

It’s such an honor to be an Impact Award finalist at the World Championship! We never expected that 14 years after winning the Chairman's Awards at Champs, we would be one of 6 teams to become 2026 Impact Award finalists. To be able to bring a part of our community and us into the spotlight is incredibly important to us, and we are so grateful to be able to do so! As a team, we have come so far since the beginning of the season. This year, we have truly grown so much as a team, fostering new connections, pushing through natural disasters, and coming out even stronger than before. Thank you to all the mentors who have put in countless hours to make dreams come true, and thank you to the supportive families who have watched their kids fly out thousands of miles from Oahu to compete with people from all over the world. We can’t wait to see what's in store for us next as we continue to strive to be the best we can be.
