UTAH REGIONAL

APRIL 2026

Week 7 of competition season has arrived, and we are back after a short break with our robot rebuild! We arrived in West Valley City, Utah, for the Utah Regional. Our team was excited to see our new and improved robot compete for the first time, and even more excited to see what this competition brings!

QUALIFICATION MATCHES

The first full day of the competition has started, and our team is ready for it! After much testing on the practice day, we can be confident that our robot will perform at its best. We played a few practice matches and jumped right into the qualification matches. We shot balls at an even faster pace than before, thanks to our robot rebuild. One of our best matches was qualification match 31, where we partnered with 7183 and 10256 and scored 606: a personal best! Our teammates devised a new strategy: outtaking balls under the trench to push them onto our side to score in the hub while it is active. This strategy was proven effective since at the end of qualification matches, we placed 2nd with a record of 9-1-0 (win-loss-tie)!

FINALS

Alliance selection has started, and it's time for all of our scouting data to pay off! We were invited by team 7436, Pair of Dice, to join Alliance 1, which we graciously accepted. Together, we chose to team up with team 5071, Charger Robotics. We had previously played with 7436 and 5071, both rounds in which we were successful! We surged through playoff matches, and after becoming the winners of the lower bracket, we moved on to the finals!

PRACTICE MATCHES

To carry our robot to all the competitions we have to, we deconstruct it so we can fit it in our crate for shipping. At our hotel, we reassembled our robot and tested all its components. We shot balls, practicing distance and refining our code. Thank you to team 3006 for lending us the fuel that we used to test it. We did a bunch of testing to ensure our robot's performance was top-notch. Later that day, we arrived at the venue for practice matches. Since the tournament was a 2.5-day event, we used the limited amount of practice matches we had to test our robot even more, including hanging, which we couldn’t do in our hotel. The rest of our team, who weren’t working on the robot, set up the pit and handed out gifts (Chocolate-covered macadamia nuts – a crowd favorite!) to all the teams at the tournament to wish them good luck and fun! The Hawaiian Host group made it possible for us to share our Aloha by donating 54 boxes to us to give to other teams.

ALLIANCE SELECTION

After 13 playoff matches, we finally made it to the finals. During finals, match one, we immediately started at a disadvantage by losing autonomous. We were almost able to make up the difference, but ultimately lost the first match with a score of 463-504. We won our second match with a score of 499-421. The stakes and tension were high for the third and final match; whoever won would be the Utah Regional Winners. Although losing the autonomous period, we quickly made up lost points and were in the lead. Unfortunately, both of our alliance partners died during the second portion of the match, which caused us to fall behind. Although we lost, we are so grateful for the experience of competing and meeting new people. Mahalo to our friends, PAIR OF DICE, and Charger Robotics for being amazing alliance partners!

IMUA WAIALUA!

We ended the tournament with the autonomous award and Utah Regional Finalists. A huge thank you to our mentors, who work relentlessly to ensure that our students can have the best opportunities possible! We have faced many barriers and difficulties this season, but this has only made us stronger. We pushed through and earned 3 regional wins and 1 regional finalist. We are already working on improvements and can’t wait to see what comes next at the FRC World Championship in Houston, Texas. We will utilize all that we learned from these past four regionals to come back even stronger. See you at Champs, Imua Waialua!
