VRC MS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

INTENSE MATCHES
20 teams from all across the islands came to compete at the Middle School State Championship, but only 3 will advance to worlds: the Tournament Champions and the Excellence Award winner. The amount of pressure on these teams made the competition even more exciting! In the qualification matches, every match could cost you something. If you lost even a single match, your rank would plummet to the bottom of the charts. To maximize their chances of winning, each alliance had to come up with strategies to ensure they would come out of the match with a win. 3590A started as the first match of the day, paired with 4400A against 4400C and 4400X. To combat this strong alliance, 3590A and 4400A came up with an amazing strategy, and by playing double offense the scored a win! At the end of the tournament, 3590A ranked 2nd with a score of 9-1-0 (win-loss-tie), 3590C ranked 12th with a score of 4-6-0, and 3590B ranked 19th with a score of 1-9-0. Our teams have come so far in the tournament, and there are only 2 segments left to go: alliance selection and the playoffs!
LOOKING AHEAD
The alliance selection had started, and teams were excited to see which teams would be pairing up to the playoffs together. In alliance selection, the top-ranking teams get to choose their partners, and they have the choice to either accept or decline. However, if the chosen team declines, they are not able to be chosen by another team; they must form their own alliance. 96789S, Mecha Force, chose 3590A. 27301X chose 3590C, and 27301E chose 3590B. Unfortunately, both 3590B and 3590C were eliminated in the quarterfinal matches. 96789S and 3590A both powered through the play-off matches as an unstoppable force, winning all of their matches and earning them a spot in the finals! Playing against 4400A and 4400X, 96789S and 3590A worked together to defend the other alliance from scoring and score blocks themselves, winning their first match with a whopping 73 - 0. The first match was over, but the second match would really be the deciding factor in who won the state champs. In the end, 96789S and 3690A won State Champs with a second match of 65 - 15. We are so proud of them!
ARRIVAL AND PREPARATION
It was the day after High School States, and it is finally time for our middle school students to compete! 3590A, 3590B, and 3590C arrived bright and early in the morning, preparing their robots for inspection and the exciting day full of competition!
ALLIANCE SELECTION & PLAYOFFS
We want to start by thanking our mentors for all their help and support this season. We wouldn’t be here without them. A huge congrats to Team 3590A for their victory and qualifying for the World Championship! Teams 3590B and 3590C may not have advanced, but making it to the state championship is a big accomplishment in itself. 3590A is preparing for the world championship, while our FRC team is preparing for the world championship as well. We’re excited for what’s ahead!
