Tidal Tumble

October 2025

After a brief respite, back home in Hawaii, we flew back to California, but our destination was Ventura instead. Coming in with lots of excitement to compete in our second off-season event, Tidal Tumble, looking forward to building on the momentum from SoCal Showdown and further testing the improvements in our new vision and programming logic, as well as how our fixed arm from SoCal Showdown would fare.

QUALIFICATIONS

We started off qualification matches with a bang, winning our first match with a score of 190 to 57! Throughout the competition, we ensured our robot was working to its best ability by testing between matches and checking that its mechanisms were functioning properly. At the end of qualification matches on day two, we were ranked fourth with a win-loss-tie record of 8-3-0.

PLAY-OFFS

Qualification matches came to a close, and alliance selection was around the corner! As the third seed alliance captain, we chose Team 9084, the Octobots, as our first pick. Next, we decided to choose Team 1148, Harvard Westlake Robotics, as our second partners. Lastly, we chose team 8006, the Phantoms, as our third partner. Our new alliance is ready to take on the playoffs!

PRACTICE DAY

We began day 0 by unpacking our crates and setting up our pit for the upcoming competition. We set up our cart, which was vital in allowing us and our robot to go from one building, the pit, to another, the field. Soon, we started practice matches against other teams, allowing us to meet our fellow competitors and get to know the lay of the land!

ALLIANCE SELECTIONS

We started off play-off rounds going against Alliance Six, which we won with a score of 214-164! Our next round was against Alliance Two, which was extremely close, with a score of 190 to 187, causing us to drop down to the lower bracket. Our first round in the lower bracket was against Alliance Eight, which we won! This gave us a spot in the semi-finals, and after fighting hard to win several very close matches, we had secured a place in the finals. In the finals, we tried our best but sadly lost the first two rounds, making us finalists of Tidal Tumble.
